A "brief" summary of J.R.R. Tolkien's life and writings:
A Quick Bio...
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, 1892-1973, is an author and philologist known for his work in both of these professions. Most famous for his novels The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, his literary achievements are more widely acknowledged than his linguistic contributions, but whether or not they can be put measured equally or unequally is questionable. J.R.R. Tolkien wrote over 40 novels and stories and many more poems, and his opuses The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit have been made into several films and many audio books, both dramatized and not. He is considered the father of High Fantasy, and was far more than a simple author. He is a character anyone who has read his writings knows very well. He is an artist who plays skillfully the hearts of children listening to a bed time tale - and those of an age of human beings who are thirsty for empirical truth, even if they are unaware of it.
