You may read "Grace" here... So I wrote the melody first. I stole the first line from a line I had written for a Christmas song I had never finished. Originally, it was "a voice was ringing like a bell" but "shining like a star" fit better in this song so that's what it became. It is a simple message in less simple words. The chorus is slightly more poetic than the rest, and I don't know what half of it means... the half I do understand (if you will stop considering me as odd for the next few seconds) is about... actually I have no idea. Hold on while I add meaning...
(And yes I am odd...) Okay... The first line, "fires of a fallen rain", simply means "rain" (what a shock) and it "serenades a crystal lake" by sending its raindrops into it. So the first two lines are simply painting a tranquil image and contributing to the "wet" effect, MEANING: While writing (and recording) this song I wanted the feel (and sound) of an empty ocean (or empty sky) full of raindrops, which, in my mind, and perhaps in yours as well, is a peaceful scene. Like being in the car in a rainstorm. Meaning in lines 3-4 is beyond my creativity... Line 5 is meaningless. Stop criticizing my sanity. LINES 6-7 ACTUALLY HAVE MEANING!!! Jaw dropping... Too good to be true! Actually that is true. Line 6 only has half of a meaning. My "silence" is supposed to mean "submission". To whom am I submitting? God. No idea what the "seven seas" are. Perhaps they are symbolic for "every circumstance"? Anyway, "that your ruin may not be in vain" means "that I may not waste Jesus's death for me". In other words, Jesus died for me. If no one desired to be saved and to accept Christ, what would be the purpose in him coming to save us? I shall not dishonor Christ by ignoring his death - the death of THE SON OF GOD. Is that not a sin in itself? No. I shall submit to him and receive his "grace." "I took Jesus as my savior/You take him too." AND NOW FOR THE VERSES... Verse 1: the voice of God, of Grace, shines in and expels darkness. Verse 2: a "silver lining" idea where the Light is shining although the clouds are thick and dark. Verse 3: imagery; a willow's branches are manipulated by an aggressive wind, the less aggressive whisperings of night seek respite from the cold and damp and dark, and a nightingale "sings the blues", as it were. Verse 4: Upon his deathbed, novelist Victor Hugo said, "I see a dark light." We can only make assumptions as to what this means. We know, however, that Victor Hugo participated in satanic practices. This "dark light" may have been Hell, truth (the realization that Heaven existed and that he wasn't going there), or simply death. This is the sort of light that shone "as brightly as the moon". The light of the moon, in this case, is supposed to be cold and unwelcoming, and not "the real light." BUT: Verse 5: another light arises in the darkness and "dark light". This is God's Word, Grace, and Hope. It "radiates" in the night and "expelled all darkness". Finally, like a lighthouse, it leads all who wander "to land." I hope you enjoyed this song and its explanation. I am currently working on a recording of it, and once this recording is finished I shall post it, so stay tuned! (no pun intended...)
