But why?
I am a poet, writer, and songwriter. I play the guitar, piano, and ukulele and am learning how to play the cornet, the mandolin, and the didgeridoo. As much as I love music, however, my heart lies with words.
Upon the day I was baptized my pastor said that my calling was to touch the loud world in a quiet way, and all my life I have been drawn to the written word and to the to-be-written word. And that is why I gave this blog a chance. I hope you will as well. So why do I write? What is my drive? I am a devoted Christian, and I believe God gave me the gift of writing. With such a thesis, it would be a sin to not consume as many trees as possible with my ink and pen. With my writing and God's favor, I intend to bring rhyme and reason back to the realm of poetry. This world is dying, but is not yet dead. We are living proof of this, that there is hope. God knows how long we have until His Son returns, and until that day I will do my best to shine Light upon those not in it, that I may do my part to grasp them and drag them out of their darkness; not to leave them in the expanse between Heaven and Hell, but to lead them through the gates of paradise as brothers and sisters, as the elect, as children of God. I believe the most potent hook with which I might draw them is my words. So that is why I write. Now for the monotone "about me..." I am 15 years old, have an obsession with fountain pens and an unwilling addiction to losing them. My favorite bands are Relient K, Owl City, twenty one pilots, and tobyMac/Diverse City. My favorite authors are J.R.R. Tolkien, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and N.D. Wilson. My favorite poet is T.S. Eliot. Coffee is my life. I am part of my church's youth band (whom I call The Unibrows) and a rock band called the Small Pineapple Nation (click on "Coffee is my life" to get to our website). I am slowly learning Norwegian Bokmål and taking Latin I. I believe in seeking "to find words of delight, and uprightly [writing] words of truth" (Ecclesiastes 12:10 ESV). I am the nail in His hands. I am the prodigal son. Sincerely, JA |
