(Look to the rap section after the prechorus for an explanation of images)
Searching for meaning in the shallows I’m wading waist deep in deceit, Waiting wasting my hours, Attempting to keep my feet. Planted in the sands, The shallows dancing in the sunlight, The shadows dance when lights abate. The silver shimmers address me Tempting me with their estate, Planted in the sands, Planted in the sands, Planted in the sands, Planted in the sands. Prechorus: I watch you as you go farther and farther away. Rap: So the shimmers, are the ease of, my receding, to recesses of Internal bleeding, - meaning I will hide and try to den-y, in your presence this Need in my makeup for meaning I’ll fake love love faking that I am not breaking, you and I know that my mind is Taking everything you’ve taught me every blessing second guessing the grace you bought me, yo I’ll be messing up and needing You more than I ever did, but I’d rather be tethered to this waiting in my longing Watching you as you go farther and farther away.

The "you" in this song is sin and the devil. This song was inspired by Crowder's newest album American Prodigal, and by my own life. It is a song of resistance, a battle song to keep us running forward. Enjoy. You Can't Hold Me Down Chorus You can't hold me down, Even if you tried, You can't touch me now, God is on my side, You can't hold me down Verse 1 And I'm fighting for my life, I cannot lose it now, Walking on a knife Your greatest love is how, Your battle cry resounds, The Devil hits the ground, (Chorus) Verse 2 You're fighting for me Lord You are my confidence, You're my shield and my sword You are my one defense, Your trumpet shall resound, Those who are lost are found, (Chorus) I wrote this a couple years ago... at that time I was trapped under the (false) impression that I had no friends and was lonely. If this was true in any way it was my fault. The "you" in this song is God, and this song is about how he is all we need, even if our lives are dry and unpleasant, he always loves us and brings us joy. I started writing this in a sudden burst of inspiration late on a Saturday night. At our church we have a Roland digital piano that is not often used, so at Church the next morning I tried it out and liked it. I have thought about adding another verse since then but I don't think it "wants" it. I think it has said everything it ought to, and to add more would be to make it obnoxious. If I do indeed write another verse, it will show up in an updated version of this post, and you can judge for yourself whether or not it is obnoxious. Until then, enjoy! True Love
Verse 1 Even if I never know love, on earth here, At least I'll have you, yes at least I'll have you, What more could I want, than you, What more could I ask for Than true love? Verse 2 Even if I never know love, on earth here, I'll never be without a friend, No you'll always be my friend, [...] What more could I ask for Than true love? Bridge You are ever-loving, You are ever-faithful, You are never-changing, You're my true love, you're my true love, You will always love me, Even when I curse you, You will love me when I Most despise you, Even if I never know love, on earth here, At least I'll have you, yes at least I'll have you, What more could I want, than you, What more could I ask for Than true love? Even if I never know love, on earth here, I'll never be without a friend, No you'll always be my friend, What more could I ask for, Than true love? With this song I wrote my first of a new style of song, which, as far as I know, does not exist in the modern era. There is little or no structure in it, no verses, choruses, or bridges - there is, however, the element of repetition. For example, in this song, it is the title that is repeated as a refrain. I certainly enjoy writing in this style and hope that others enjoy it as much as I do. I hope you will enjoy reading it now. (Note: it is split into two parts. The first is the song itself, while the second is more of an appendix which I wrote after I had the original down and memorized. I do intend to stick it at the end of the song, because it is quickly becoming more and more of the song.) You Were Right All Along P.1 Perhaps you are right, Perhaps it is me who has gone wrong. Perhaps here tonight You may add rhythm to my song, You were right all along. I will not shed a tear, Whatever I hear. Will the man about to hang Not want to loosen the noose? If he can converse with time, And do his best to strike a truce... So come and add rhyme to my song. You were right all along. P.2 If I dare close my eyes, I will miss the sunrise, And if I do not perceive The light which robs of the hills The heavy curse of disguise And heals the shadowy chills, So come and breath life into my song, You were right all along. I wrote this song for my church's Youth Group. I play acoustic guitar (or whatever else needs playing) and sing for my youth band, and I thought it would be nice for us to sing a song we wrote. This is what I came up with. It may have become too poetic to sing with a congregation of worshipers, some of whom have probably never heard some of the words, but it is nevertheless a song of worship. Enjoy! |
